DEEP FOCUS. π

I find that there are two aspects to my most focused state: ELEVATION and MUTING.
1. ELEVATION
When directing all my concentration onto a single action, a person speaking, an email, a table tennis ballβ¦ it elevates that thing to a pure state, ready to be engaged. As if the object is momentarily transformed, however slightly, by the attention youβre paying it. It no longer struggles to be seen, heard, and appreciated amongst all the usual clutter in our stimulation-rich world.
2. MUTING
The flip side of the same coin: When I fully elevate something, everything else in the periphery falls away, quietly swallowed up in a soft blur. You become an isolated player on a tiny island, with zero distractions from anywhere in the universe. There is no universe; it has faded away. It remains muted, if only for thirteen minutes or three seconds. Just as long as it takes to deeply focus β and then act.
